Finca Margarita: Eco-Home
Finca Margarita is a Modern Off-grid Eco-home – the house is powered entirely by the sun and collects it’s water from rainfall. Surrounded by such unspoiled natural beauty, we aim to live in the most sustainable and carbon-neutral way possible, whilst offering our guests all modern comforts they might expect, such as washing machine, dishwasher and a large screen TV (all solar-powered!).
Off-setting Carbon Emissions
We aim to be carbon neutral, in order to help to protect the environment and reduce our impact towards climate change. Therefore, the carbon emissions of all flights to Finca Margarita will be offset through tree planting. Here are our calculations…
One direct return economy flight from London to Alicante produces around 0.25 metric tons of carbon https://calculator.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx?tab=3
One tree can sequester 1 ton of carbon dioxide by the time it reaches 40 years old. https://calculator.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx?tab=3
But, as trees grow, they compete for resources and some may die – so not all will achieve their full carbon sequestration potential. We have decided that 4 trees should be planted to ensure that at least one lives to 40 years or that their combined sequestration equals 1 ton.
Therefore, for every 4 return flights to Finca Margarita, we pledge to plant and care for four new trees. This means that there will be one tree planted and dedicated to each guest that visits us 🙂
Each year we are hoping to host a Yoga and Climbing Mini-Festival here at Finca Margarita, with all profits going towards a charity which the guests can vote for. Examples include:
Amnesty International: protecting human rights: https://www.amnesty.org/en/
MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station) – preventing loss of life by providing professional search-and-rescue assistance to refugees & migrants in distress at sea: https://www.moas.eu/
