Yoga Retreat Information & FAQ’s:

What’s Included

Almost everything at the yoga retreat is included. The only exceptions are flights & transfers and travel insurance. Some retreats also offer massages, which are usually not included (for example, Ayurvedic Massage – legs & back, with warm, naturally scented oils – with Remei is an additional 25 for a 45 minute massage).

The Accommodation

There are two shared twin bedrooms. The rooms are fresh, light and spacious, with an en-suite bathroom. The accommodation is usually available before and after the organised Retreat dates for those wanting to extend their holiday. This costs 50 euros per room per night (if sharing the room this makes it just 25 euros per night per person). Please check with us before you book flights to check availability.

Can I have a single room?
We currently only have shared rooms available. In practice it is often nice to share with another guest. We try to sensitively arrange the room sharing as far as possible.

Are there clothes washing facilities?
We do have a washing machine you can use, especially if you are staying longer than a week.

What should I bring?

Essentials:

  • Suitable clothes to practice yoga in, such as stretchy leggings or shorts and a comfortable and breathable tank top or tee shirt. The best clothing to wear for yoga is anything that you’re comfortable to move in and that allows the skin to breathe and body to move in any direction without getting caught on anything. The less bulky or bunchy, the better.
  • Suncream and summer clothes for the day time, and some warm clothes for the evenings. Although days are often very sunny and warm, evenings here can sometimes be a bit chilly, so our advice is to check the weather before you set off and come prepared for all occasions!
  • Some euros for a local restaurant lunch (menu of the day is around 14) and anything else you might want to buy during your stay.
  • Climbing shoes and equipment if you are a climber wishing to sample some of the local crags.
  • Swimsuit for the beach (beach & shower towels provided)
  • Comfortable walking shoes for exploring the local area
  • Notebook and a pen to record anything that you might want to remember from the retreat.

The Yoga

Do I need to bring any yoga equipment?
We have yoga mats, blankets and
yoga blocks here available for you to use. Some people prefer to bring their own mat – of course this is fine.

What is the style of Yoga?
The style of yoga depends on the teacher who is instructing the retreat. Generally, there
will be two yoga sessions offered per day: a morning Vinyasa Flow class, well-paced to energise and set you up for the day, and an evening class either yin or restorative yoga or guided meditation.

What are the yoga spaces like?
We have two lovely yoga spaces, one inside and one outside,
depending on the weather. They are both spacious and light with great views. The outdoor space is up on a sun terrace, where you can soak in the morning sunlight, bathed in bird song. If it’s windy or rainy, or too hot for the terrace, we can retreat to the shelter of the indoor yoga studio. Additionally, the remote situation, peaceful atmosphere and space available at and around the grounds of the Finca make it easy to find quiet space for yourself at any time of day.

What are the class sizes?
There is currently a maximum of 4 guests on each retreat. However, this may increase in the coming years as we add the possibility of additional “glamping” accommodation.

The Food

Our nutritious, delicious food draws inspiration from the Mediterranean diet which is reputedly amongst the healthiest in the world, full of fresh, quality, local produce. Fertile soils, clean air and bountiful sunshine produce some of the tastiest fruit and vegetables, which, when prepared with love (and local olive oil), result in mouth watering yet healthy cuisine. An example days menu might be:

Breakfast:  Chia yoghurt bowl topped with fresh red fruits and granola

We also always offer plenty of extra bread/toast/porridge as well as nuts, fruit, seeds, spreads, nut butters & vegan milks or smoothies for those who want more fuel to start their day! Just let us know before-hand what you like and we will try to provide it!

Lunch:  Traditional Spanish gazpacho soup with fresh home-baked bread, home-made hummus dip & a variety of fresh salads (served with Marcus’ infamous vegan mayo!)

Dinner:  Mexican mushroom, pepper & mixed bean chili (sin carne), with fresh lemony avocado guacamole, tomato salsa, sweet potato polenta chips & brown rice

Desert:  Home-made lemon & lavendar cashew cheesecake

Can I get a cup of tea/bite to eat anytime?
Yes, there is a
shared kitchen which guests are welcome to use which is always stocked with coffee, teas, vegan milk, fresh fruit, nuts, bread and jams. You can help yourself anytime.

Is there any beer/wine/spirits and can I smoke?
Guests are free to drink alcohol if they choose, although we recommend that during retreat dates, alcohol is abstained to make the most of the retreat. Other alcohol free drinks are available during the retreat, such as fresh juices & smoothies, tea, coffee, a range of herbal teas and fresh drinking water. Smoking is permitted only in designated smoking areas.

Is the retreat vegetarian/vegan?
Yes, we are fully
vegan with no fish, meat, dairy or eggs at the retreat itself. We provide a well balanced and delicious plant-based menu. You are welcome to provide your own non-vegan food to add if you have additional needs. If a restaurant trip is planned, we can recommend good quality local restaurants with both vegan and non-vegan options.

Do you cater for gluten free, vegan, raw and other special diets?
We can cater for just about any special diet, but please let us know in advance so we can stock up on what we need to feed you well!

Things To Do!

There are many things to do round the retreat and further afield. Here’s a mini guide to possible options:

Massage
Enjoying a good massage is a great way to complete your relaxation. Massage is not included in the price, and will require pre-booking before the holiday (although payment can be taken in cash on the day). Ayurvedic Massage with Remei, a wonderful healing massage of the legs & back using warmed and naturally scented oils, is an additional 20 for 40 minutes.

Library, Film & Games Nights
Our library has a good selection of yoga and reading books, and if it suits the week we sometimes have a film
or games night. There are also a number of games available in our lounge including cards, chess, draughts, lego champions, go and dice. We also have a variety of outdoor games available on request.

Beaches, Swimming & Snorkelling
There are a variety of beaches within an hours drive from the Finca. We often to do at least one beach day at one of the sandy beaches, where lots of fun can be had practicing tricky balances, inversions and/or partner/acro yoga with the added comfort of super soft, sandy landings! There is also some incredible snorkelling to be done at the beautiful, rocky parts of the coast.

Walking
There are lots of
spectacular national trail walks and hikes to explore around the Finca, including the spectacular “Barranco del Infierno” (devil’s gorge), the ancient cave paintings of the “Placa de Petracos” and the magnificent “Caballo Verde” ridge.

Climbing

We are lucky to live within a climbers paradise here at Finca Margarita. There is a very pretty and tranquil bouldering spot in a dry riverbed with a wide variety of styles and grades just 5 minutes drive from the Finca, as well as many well-established sport climbing crags to choose from. Our closest sport climbing crags are: Castell de Castells, Alcalali, Lliber (Pena Roja), Pego and L’Ocaive. Just type in Benimaurell to UKClimbing’s “find crags” page to find out more: http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/map/#main. Although the summers are hot here in Spain, it is possible to enjoy year-round climbing, making the most of the cooler shadier crags during the hotter months. Bouldering mats are available for hire at 10 per day, but you must bring your own shoes, chalk and sport climbing equipment should you wish to climb at the bolted crags.
